Overview
When you need to use the results of one optimization to make another one, you can use multi-stage loading.
This is the case when, after loading products into carton, you need to place those cartons in a pallet.
Also, you may need to optimize the pallets into a truck, but right after you optimize the cartons into the pallets.
Cube-IQ can even handle a more complete scenario when you need to optimize the products into cartons, the cartons into pallets and the pallets into Trucks or maritime containers. An you can optimize all the stages with a single click of a button.
Procedure
- In order to create 2 stage loads, we need to switch the multi-stage loading on. Go to Options/General and check Multi-stage loading.
As a result, now we will see the stage controls in the Load Setup window.
- Start a new load, then set the containers and the products. Make sure to set the quantity of the containers high enough to fill all the products you need.
- Click the spinner at the top right to increase a stage and set it to 2. Then you will be prompted to select the container for the stage 2. In this case we are selecting a pallet.
- Hit Optimize and the products will be optimized into the carton boxes and then the carton boxes will be palletized.
We are in stage 2 now and you will see the previous stage cartons automatically appearing as products.
You can now freely switch between the two stages by clicking the box indicated, to adjust quantities, etc.
