Overview
This article explains the group splitting rules in Cube-IQ and how they affect the way products with the same group number are distributed across containers during optimization. These rules allow you to control how strictly product groupings are preserved during loading, which can be critical in scenarios like kit handling, shipment staging, or warehouse zone control.
Requirements
- Cube-IQ version 5.1 or higher.
Product Information
The Group Splitting Rule defines if/when products that share the same group number can be split across multiple containers.
To update the setting, navigate to the:
- Load Setup tab.
- Select Loading Rules sub-tab.
Below are the available options and how they impact optimization behavior:
-
Always allowed:
- Products in the same group can be split freely across containers.
- Recommended when grouping is used for neat layout but not shipment constraints.
-
Allowed if it avoids an extra Container:
- Groups are kept intact unless splitting them avoids using an additional container.
- Ideal for minimizing the number of containers while preserving group structure when possible.
-
Ok only when too large for one Container:
- Groups remain together unless they physically cannot fit into a single container.
- Useful for sets that typically ship as a unit but may exceed container capacity.
-
Never allowed:
- Groups must stay together at all times.
- If a group is too large or heavy for one container, it will not be loaded at all.
- Essential for regulated, fragile, or pre-kitted shipments that cannot be split.
